In this workshop we will explore 2 dance props used in tribal belly dance, Hand Candles and Sword. We will spend time learning each prop and then we will combine the two props together in dance combinations.
Please bring your dance sword and battery operated hand candles to class. I have a few loaners of each prop that can be shared in class if you don't have a sword or battery candles.

Tribal Zill Workshop
Finger cymbals, or zills, are an essential part of learning tribal belly dancing, but for most dancers, learning how to play an instrument while dancing can definitely be a challenge.
This workshop will cover everything you need to know to learn how to play your zills!
We will discuss how to choose your zills, four basic sounds to make and several rhythms we play while dancing. We will drill moves and layer the rhythms with the steps. We will break out into duets or trios and dance together. We'll come together as one group in chorus and we will be dancing and playing together by end of class.
Please bring your zills to class. I have a few loaner zills available if you don't have any.

Belly Dance Zill Workshop
While finger cymbals were an absolutely integral part of every belly dance show back in the 70s and 80s, they fell out of favor a bit over the next couple of decades. Finger cymbals are making a comeback as dancers are exploring and embracing this ancient instrument.
We will learn several rhythms and 4 basic sounds we can make with our zills. We will put them with movement and by the end of class we will be both musician and dancer, gracefully putting zills and dance together.
Please bring your zills to class. Loaner zills will available if you don't have any.
