Shimmy Rebellion

Shimmy Rebellion, is the name of the energetic American Cabaret Belly Dance troupe comprised of dancers Amunet, Nasma, and Syreen. They met in a small belly dance class taught by long time famous instructor and performer Yasmina. They made their debut as a group in February 2006. Since then, the group has earned some measure of popularity. In October of 2006, Shimmy Rebellion performed at the glamorous black-tie event, "Zoofari", at the Phoenix Zoo, and one week later, danced their magic at the Arizona State Fair. The troupe has also performed at the annual belly dancing exhibition "Spell Three with the "F" Word, directed by TC Skinner, in addition to performing at a dinner, dance, and auction benefit for a cancer survivor. The group has taken lessons from Arizona icon dancers such as Yasmina, a winner in 2004 & 2006 Wiggles of the West, Mahin and Ava Fleming, Belly Dancer of the Universe 2004 along with Sonia, of the Bellydance Superstars.  Each dancer contributes her unique flair as a performer but dancing together, the trio creates an enchanting addition to any event. 

Amunet, with her exotic French/Native-American/Asian ethnic background, is an incredibly multi-talented woman and who has served her country in the US Navy. Other than dance, Amunet's hobbies are playing guitar, piano and decorating the homes of family and friends. 

Born and raised in Thailand, Nasma has been dancing since primary school. She has studied Thai Classical dance for more than 12 years along with ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, salsa, hula and belly dancing. Nasma is also a clothing designer with a degree in fashion design. She designs her own costumes as well as costumes for performers around the country. 

Formerly known as a Mrs. Utah contestant, Syreen started dancing at the age of 7 on a drill team and from there has learned many dance forms including clogging, ballroom, jazz, cheerleading, modern dance and of course, her current favorite, belly dancing. Syreen got her start in belly dancing with Ava Fleming and met Amunet and Nasma in Yasmina's class. 

With their diversity of backgrounds and expertise, Amunet, Nasma and Syreen enjoy dancing and performing. Their professionalism, friendliness and high energy dance styles have captivated audiences' attention and become Shimmy Rebellion's "Trademark". Since November last year, Shimmy Rebellion has performed regularly at My Big Fat Greek Restaurant in Ahwatukee, Arizona. This month, February 2007, together with Banner Hospital, they will be at "Day of Dance" to promote dance & exercise benefits at Fiesta Mall.
